Diabetes is consistently among the top five most prevalent diagnoses among Clinic patients.
In 2010, more than 25.8 million children and adults in the United States had diabetes, and this number is only increasing.
Diabetes is a terrible illness with serious complications including:
- Heart disease and Stroke
- High Blood Pressure
- Blindness
- Kidney Disease possibly resulting in chronic dialysis or kidney transplant
- Nervous System Disease
- Amputations
The CDC has identified diabetes as the sixth leading cause of death with over 200,000 related deaths.
About the Dash
Dash History
The Dash for Diabetes was established to raise awareness and support for the efforts against diabetes. Money raised from The Dash will provide much needed funding for the American Diabetes Association.
American Diabetes Association
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is a United States-based association working to fight the consequences of diabetes, and to help those affected by diabetes. The Association funds research to manage, cure and prevent diabetes (including type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and pre-diabetes); delivers services to hundreds of communities; and provides information for both patients and health care professionals.
